As most of you will already know, this here is Mr. Henry Cavill, the British actor who plays the Man of Steel in the new Superman movies. Yes, he’s handsome. Yes, he’s buff (apparently all that Superman training pays off), and yes…he’s a 32 year-old man dating a 19 year-old woman.
Wait…what!?
Yep. 32 year-old Henry Cavill is dating a 19 year-old university freshman. Now granted, we here at Trendelier think that there should be no age restriction on love and all that jibber jabber, but if you take a step back from the whole thing and just look at it at face value, what I’m left with is an unshakable sense of “what the hell do they talk about!?”
Apparently Cavill has been dating 19 year-old university freshman Tara King since last October, when the two were first spotted together by the always eagle-eyed British tabloid paparazzi. Word has it that the two even went on vacation together to New Zealand, and he recently took her home to meet his family in Jersey. That’s Jersey in the Channel Islands for my fellow Americans out there, not Jersey is in “Joisee” as in New Jersey.
Anyway, the UK paper the Daily Mail did a bit of a thing on Cavill recently. Here’s how they put it.
When British Superman actor Henry Cavill hitched up with teenage student Tara King, many eyebrows were raised over the 13-year age gap and whispers were soon spreading about how long the romance could possibly last. But I can reveal that not only are Henry, 32, and 19-year-old Tara still together, they are positively thriving, after three holidays together.
Their most recent break, to New Zealand, was during Tara’s reading week at university. It may well have been seen as unusual behaviour for a first-year student because, while most fellow undergraduates were knuckling down with their books, I gather Tara was excitedly sharing snaps of her journey to Wellington on social media app Snapchat.
The pair are clearly serious, and I hear that Henry – star of Man Of Steel and upcoming blockbuster Batman v Superman – has taken his girlfriend to meet his family in Jersey. While they were there, Henry posted a bizarre snap of Tara playfully squidging his man-of-steel cheeks.
So I guess that would be this one then.
So…at the risk of sounding like an old fart sounding-off because they want to put a pool hall in River City (trouble!), I just can’t help but question why at 32, Cavill is interested in dating a 19 year-old. I’m sure she’s a perfectly lovely human being, but he has to take her out of school in order for them to spend time together. His travelling schedule and her school schedule? I do not get it. and this is coming from yours truly, who dated a 27 year-old when she was 19. For like, a year. And you know what? It ended. Why? Because we were in two completely different places in our lives.
Yet these two persist. I have to say, the imbalance of power here is disturbing. In addition to being infinitesimally creepy, it also speaks volumes about Cavill’s character. Speaking as someone who has been a 19 year-old woman, no matter how much you love someone (or think you do…at 19, my money’s on “think”), when you are just starting out at university, you are in such a different place mentally and emotionally than some 32 year-old guy whose been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, yet apparently wants to keep coming back to the kegger.
Apparently I’m not the only one who has side-eyed this relationship. a “source” close to the actor said as much to the Daily Mail.
A lot of people wondered if the relationship would last, but this shows it’s serious, despite the age difference
Be that as it may, things are about to get busy for Cavill again, what with the upcoming release of the long-awaited blockbuster bait, Batman vs. Superman. Cavill had to train to get himself in peak Superman condition, and the internet has certainly has taken notice over the last few weeks.
Notice how he states here on his Instagram that he is forcing himself to keep going by setting this pic as a minimum goal. If this is the bare minimum, I know I speak for all the women of earth when I say that we cannot wait to bear witness his “average” and “above average” games.
