The year 2015 has been a rough one for romance in Hollywood — is anyone together anymore?! As the end of the year approaches, we thought we’d round up some of the most shocking celebrity break-ups of the year. Take a look, while we dab our eyes and pray that the rest of the year remains split-free (we’re looking at you, Beyonce and Jay-Z)!
1. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner
In one of the most scandalous splits of the year, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner called it quits this June. After terrible allegations that Ben was having an affair with their nanny, the couple decided to announce that they were parting ways on day after their 10th wedding anniversary.
In a joint statement the couple expressed their sadness saying, “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”
After a decade of Bennifer, we were heartbroken to see them part ways. We wish them nothing but the best in the new year!
2. Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn
Following Tiger Woods’s very public split from his current ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, the world was surprised to learn that Woods and skiing sensation Lindsey Vonn were seeing each other.Tiger’s reputation took a hit when he was revealed to have had dozens of affairs during his marriage to Elin, and suffered from a sexual addiction.
Tiger and Lindsey dated for two years before breaking up in May of this year. The split was attributed to their busy lifestyles, though they claimed to be parting amicably.
3. Len Wiseman and Kate Beckinsale
Actress Kate Beckinsale and director Len Wiseman decided to go their separate ways this November after 11 years of marriage. The two worked together on the Underworld films, with Wiseman having directed two of the three movies. When they first met, they were both married. Kate was married to her ex-husband Michael Sheen whom she has a child with.
In regards to Wiseman and Beckinsale’s split, a source says, “They tried to make it work, but they end up falling back into old habits and fighting.”
4. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield
One of Hollywood’s most adorable young couples, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, split over the summer. News of their break-up was reported in October, months after the pair reportedly called it quits. This follows a hiatus that they took in April of this year. They are said to have parted on good terms and remain friendly.
5. Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick
This is one break-up we did not shed tears over. Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick’s relationship has been a roller coaster for years, ever since the two began dating in 2006. Scott was frequently at the center of cheating allegations, with the final straw being pulled over July 4th weekend, when he supposedly hooked up with his ex-girlfriend while partying in France sans Kourtney. We can only hope that the split will be better in the long run for their children Mason, Penelope and Reign.
6. Halle Berry, Olivier Martinez
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez first hit off while on the set of their film Dark Tide. The couple later married but after two years of marriage decided to divorce in October of this year. Sources have attributed the split to Olivier feeling emasculated by Halle’s success, in light of the difficulties he faced when trying to make a name for himself in Hollywood.
In a joint statement, Halle and Olivier said, “It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children’s privacy, as we go through this difficult period.”
7. Michelle Rounds and Rosie O’Donnell
In February of this year, Rosie O’Donnell and wife Michelle Rounds announced that the end of their relationship after three years of marriage. Rosie was the one to file for divorce from her now-ex-wife. They share their adopted daughter, Dakota, aged 2.
8. Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting
It came as a shock when Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco married tennis player Ryan Sweeting on New Year’s Eve 2013 after only 3 months of dating. After 21 months as a married couple, Kaley filed for divorce in September citing “irreconcilable differences”. At the beginning of their relationship, the two were inseparable and proudly shared their happiness with the world. Kaley claimed that she “just knew immediately” that Ryan was the one.
We hate to say we saw this one coming, but we’re sure neither of them will have a hard time moving on to bigger and better things.
9. Cristiano Ronaldo and Irina Shayk
Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo first met model Irina Shayk while on set for an Armani photo shoot. After five years together, the couple broke up in January following rumors that Ronaldo was cheating with women all across the world.
Irina all but confirmed the rumors when she responded to a question about what she is looking for in a future partner, “It’s very simple. You have to be faithful to your other half and not have secrets. That’s my rule.”
10. Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger
Canadian rockers Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne split this September after 2 years of marriage. The announcement was made by Avril on Instagram where she posted a photo of their wedding day along with the message, “It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today. Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we’ve created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support.”
Reports circled that ultimately, the two had very different opinions when it came to lifestyle, children and friends. It was a rough year for Avril, who revealed that she had been bedridden for 5 months with Lyme Disease.
11. Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green
After spending nearly 11 years together, we were devastated when news broke that Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green announced the end of their relationship. The couple was first engaged in 2006, however broke off the engagement in 2009. It was not long before they were engaged again in 2010 and married just a couple of weeks later.
In response to Megan’s divorce request, Brian is asking for spousal support and joint custody of their two children, Noah Shannon and Bodhi Ransom.
12. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
Our hearts broke for Gwen Stefani after it was revealed that her husband of 13 years, Gavin Rossdale, had been having an affair with their nanny, Mindy. The scandal came to light after one of the other nannies discovered sexual texts and nude photos that had been exchanged between the two on Rossdale’s iPad.
Stefani opened up about her divorce in a recent interview saying, “Because of my situation right now, which we all know what I’m talking about, I feel like I go back and listen to a lot of that stuff and I’m, like, I get sick. You look at the songs and go, ‘That was a red flag. That was a moment where I was feeling just as bad as I feel today, and why did I keep it up?”
As of right now, it seems as though Stefani is taking many steps forward. She’s currently in a relationship with country singer Blake Shelton and has released a new single, titled “I Used to Love You”.
13. Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock
In August of this year, country singer Reba McEntire and producer Narvel Blackstock announced that they had been separated for several months after 26 long years of marriage. Their label, Big Machine Label Group, released a statement saying, “Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other. They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so.”
Reba and Narvel are parents to their son Shelby Blackstock. Narvel is also the father of Brandon Blackstock, who is currently married to Kelly Clarkson.
14. Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert
They were country’s prince and princess. Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert captured hearts across America with their sweet romance. They spent 10 years together, of which 2 of them they were married.
In a joint statement, they said, “This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
What went wrong in this seemingly perfect love story? Sources say that the two had busy and conflicting schedules, and eventually drifted apart.
