Will Tom Hiddleston Be the Next James Bond?

Any of you who follow the Trendelier gossip feeds will know by now that I never miss an opportunity to do a Tom Hiddleston post. While I am fully aware that this is a man who needs neither the publicity nor my near fangirl-grade adoration, I maintain wholeheartedly that he is officially The Thinking Woman’s Pin-Up Guy. As such, I believe that as a self-proclaimed Thinking Person, it is my duty to report on all things Hiddleston. In an era that has ushered-in such empty human incuriosities as the Kardashians and that dude from Jersey who calls himself “The Situation”, I feel it is up to those of us who can actually spell “situation” to take back the night and embrace one of the few men in Hollywood who might actually be able to recite Shakespeare’s St...

The Real Cost of Your Fake Designer Handbag

A story that was picked-up by The Daily Mail this week has sort of piqued my attention. According to the Mail, a woman living in Arlington, Virginia, USA was recently apprehended for netting over $1 million over the last year, simply by dealing in fake handbags. Granted, the counterfeit handbag trade is a lot bigger than a mere million, but mind you, this was a one woman operation, and she used one of the simplest and most obvious methods going. Thai-born Praepitcha Smatsorabudh (40) was a handbag aficionado of the highest order. In fact, Smatsorabudh was such a frequent customer of a certain high-end retailer (whose name was not disclosed by The Daily Mail), that her frequent purchases of high-end handbags soon catapulted her into their “top buyer” status online. To her...

H&M + Kenzo is Coming This Fall!

This fall, fashionphiles have something other than just the usual fall sweater dressing, wool tailoring, and tall boots to get excited about. Main street giant H&M is going to be creating one of their infamous capsule collections with none other than colourful fashion label Kenzo. Creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim are at the helm of the design house, whose colorful designs and edgy use of pattern and geometric shape feel like an excellent match for the H&M demographic, which has a youthful and fashion-forward following. Right now, the collection that is planned will encompass menswear, womenswear, and some select accessories. Ann-Sophie Johansson is the creative director for H&M, and revealed plans for the collection to the fashion press on the 25th of may. We...

Julia Roberts vs. Amal Clooney: No Love Lost

Apparently this year at Cannes, there was a bit of friction between America’s Sweetheart, Julia Roberts, and the spouse of her costar in the newly-released film Money Monster, George Clooney. According to In Touch Weekly, Julia Roberts became quite fed-up with Amal Clooney’s constant presence (perhaps at the insistence of her husband?) and alleged camera-hungry posing during cast photos for Money Monster. One insider even explained to In Touch Weekly why this was an issue. Cannes has strict rules about a non-movie member posing for obligatory cast photos – it’s a big deal and very rare for a spouse to join. But Amal, with George’s blessing of course, barged right in. Amal wore a look-at-me bright yellow gown amid the cast’s sea of black, she had trouble adjusting her long...

UK Clothing Line “Collared” Caters to Female Clergy

Things finally appear to be changing to keep up with the times within the world of the clergy in the United Kingdom. It’s been twenty-five years since women have been allowed to be ordained into the Church of England, and in the last eighteen months, we’ve seen our first female bishops. It’s official – female clergy are now no longer an oddity, and have joined the ranks of working professional clergy in the United Kingdom. While I would never go so far as to say that total equality has been achieved across the board, by and large, things finally  appear to be moving in the right direction within the UK. However, there’s one area in which clergywomen were consistently being ignored – that of their professional attire. Luckily, it looks as if all that is...

GAP Stores Are Floundering, Have Closed 175 Stores So Far

There are some retail outlets that you sort of take for granted. You just sort of assume that they’re always going to be there for you when you need a plain cotton crew neck t-shirt, or a pair of skinny jeans in a tall inseam. For many of us who came of age in the 80s and 90s, that place was always The GAP. So you can imagine my shock and horror when I read in Vogue about how poor profit margins have forced GAP to shutter over 175 of their stores. According to Vogue, profit margins for the retailer were down 46.8% after the first quarter (which ended on April 30th). While the company apparently knew it had a little catching up to do and wasn’t expecting to have a particularly profitable first quarter, the dismal profit margins were much more grave than even they could have...

Hello Again Old Friend: Kanye West’s Latest Rant

It’s been awhile since we’ve had a good, old-fashioned Kanye rant to talk about…at least…one that is significant enough to qualify as “different”. There’s a Kanye rant just about every day in some form or another, so as a writer, you sort of get spoiled for choice, and start to only really sit up and pay attention when it’s a particularly good one. And that has just happened in the form of Kanye’s appearance on the Ellen Degeneres show. Welcome back, old friend. West, who was a guest on the Ellen Degrees show, brought the crazy front and center once again in what was actually a not-veiled-at-all plea for money. You’ll all remember when Kanye went on Twitter asking Mark Zuckerberg for something like 50 or 100 million to help finance his...

The 1990s Rage On: Dungarees Are Back For Summer!

At this point, I’m pretty sure that you didn’t need another reminder that the 1990s are officially back in style (but you just got one anyway). So far this fashion season, we’ve seen a re-emergence of platform sandals, slip dresses, checked shirts, denim Bermuda shorts, and t-shirts layered under spaghetti strap dresses. Now, there’s one more 90s staple that you can add to your list for summer; the denim dungaree. While comfortable and fairly easy to wear, dungarees are probably one of the most difficult things to pull-off. It’s not that they’re actually difficult to wear – its actually one of the easiest things to pull-on in a hurry.  But a pair of dungarees does have to fit just so in order to achieve that perfectly-pitched casual-cool vibe, and...

Did Kristen Stewart Get Booed at Cannes?

So this is a picture of Kristen Stewart walking the red carpet in Cannes over the weekend in what appears to be a gold drawstring sweatshirt bathing suit cover-up. Seriously, that dress has a pretty serious budget kind of a vibe going on, doesn’t it? But of course, it’s probably a Chanel budget vibe (for whom Steward is a brand ambassador), so when I say “budget”, I mean it probably costs about five grand. Be that as it may, Stewart was in Cannes promoting her newest movie, the Oliver Assayas film Personal Shopper. According to sources who were on the scene (in addition to every major media outlet that covers the film industry), once the film finished, there was a wave of boos that rippled throughout the theater. Now, before we all start clapping our hands together...

5 Reasons Why the Return of Bermuda Shorts Might Not Signify the End of the World

Look, when I first saw the return of the cut-off, skin tight denim Bermuda short, I wanted to hide my head in the sand too. However, hiding ones head in the sand when you are a fashion writer and blogger is simply not an option, and besides, like the saying goes, it’s easier to say yes than it is to say no. My initial reaction to the return of the Bermuda short notwithstanding, I decided to set personal feelings aside and do a bit of searching of the internet to see if I could find some examples that didn’t make me want to run screaming from my laptop. You know what? I found some – several, in fact. And as it turns out, there are some pretty convincing arguments out there for adding a pair or two into your wardrobe. So yet again, the theory that sometimes you just have...
