This is probably one of my favorite stories from last week, and reinforces my belief that art doesn’t always have to be soft and pretty (or even agreeable) to be art. The ink on the speech that Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs’ made about racial diversity efforts in Hollywood isn’t even dry yet, and already the old guard are out there with the paint buckets, circling the neighbourhood ready to bring a fresh coat of white to a theater near you. In what can only be considered the worst possible timing ever, today the people pulling the strings over at Charlie Hunnam’s PR machine decided that it was the perfect moment to announce that Charlie is slated to appear in the making of the true story of Mexican-American drug lord Edgar Valdez Villarreal’s life. When you’re in the public eye, there is always an inherent risk that something you do or say might right rub people the wrong way. This week, I happened upon a pic of John Travolta at the Oscars (not this photo), and like a phoenix rising from the ashes of a fire at a toupeé factory, this post was born. Sure, it’s not exactly a secret that Travolta has one of the mot famous hairpieces in the business, but for the first time, I decided to actually delve a little deeper and really look at it. Normally at celebrity red carpet events, all the talk is centered around what celebrities are wearing. However, At the last Golden Globe awards, there was one celebrity in particular that everyone could not stop talking about. Both Brad Pitt and his wife Angelina Jolie showed-up to the event looking a bit…er…refreshed, but it was Pitt in particular that really got people talking. The moment he strolled-up to the red carpet, event goers were shocked – Pitt appeared to have taken about twenty years off for his face! It’s looking like 2016 is shaping-up to be a pretty rough year for some of the world’s finest artists, not to mention the people who love them. It’s only January, and we’ve lost so many; first David Bowie, then Alan Rickman, Dan Haggerty, and now Glenn Frey. The only thing I can think of is that The Man Upstairs is getting the show back together and planning on taking it on the road. It’s the only explanation.
