It’s been several years after Heath Ledger’s death in 2008, but we will always remember this handsome actor and his legacy in Hollywood. The Australian actor was a certified heartthrob in and out of the silver screen, and he stole our hearts with his amazing roles.
He started out with TV roles in Australia, but moved to Hollywood in 1998 to further develop his acting career. It turned out that the world loved his performances in the romantic films like 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), A Knight’s Tale (2001) and Casanova (2005). He also played in drama films like Monster Ball, Ned Kelly, and in the historical war movie with Mel Gibson in The Patriot. His role as Ennis del Mar in the controversial film Brokeback Mountain won his Academy Award for Best Actor.
His best performance is perhaps his iconic role as Joker in the Batman movie Dark Knight in 2008, and ironically this film was released eight months after his death. As the haunting, psychopathic clown, he portrayed the character so well that it received stellar reviews, and even won several posthumous awards that year, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor, and Best Actor International Award in the Australian Film Institute Awards.
Heath was filming the movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, on the year of his last year. It was a fantasy film about about an immortal traveler who fell in love and made a bet with the devil. The movie was released about a year later after his death. He was found not breathing in his apartment, and it was caused by accidental overdose of medications. He was gone too soon, Heath Ledger died at the age of 28. Prior to the tragic event, he reported that he was having trouble sleeping and was suffering some kind of respiratory problem.
