Bathroom Decor Tips

Bathroom Decor Tips

Whenever people think of decorating – or better yet – redecorating their homes, it’s usually their living room and bedroom that first pop into their head. However, your home has got another room that allows you to give free reign to both your imagination and creativity. A room that may not huge, but one that definitely deserves your attention.

The title may have given this away, but yes, I am talking about the bathroom. A space where comfort, as well as aesthetic, should be paramount. Your good old bathroom may serve its purpose, but admit it: it looks pretty damn boring at the moment, so how about I give you some tips and tricks that will help you turn it into the prettiest room in your home?

See, I thought you’d be excited about it. Now let’s see talk business, shall we?

Plants are simply amazing

Look, just because most people keep their plants on window sills in the living room, it doesn’t mean you can’t bring the greenery to the bathroom too. Tiles are inherently cold, so you can be sure that a touch of green would greatly improve improve the appearance and atmosphere. Whether we’re talking about wet-loving plants like Dracaena and Boston ferns or something as simple as a vase of gorgeous scented roses or peonies, you are bound to be impressed with the end result.

Regular towel racks, boring bathroom

And let’s not forget about the fact that more often than not, they’re quite expensive too. So why bother buying one, when you can use something that you already have around the house. I’m talking about one of those wooden ladders that no one really uses anyway. No matter how old yours is, you can be absolutely sure that it is stylish enough to make your bathroom look vintage in the coolest way possible.

Be bold, baby!

Now, I have to admit that an all-white bathroom is not necessarily boring as hell. Sometimes, the simplest things can be the most elegant. But that’s not always the case, especially if you are the kind of person who is madly in love with colors.

A bold floor, for example, would look absolutely amazing paired with white bathroom furniture. I mean, let’s face it – there’s something really classy and awesome about those old school cement tiles. They make me think of a Wes Anderson movie, you know.

But if they’re not your cup of tea, you can always go for basic, but colorful tiles. Or even a wallpaper in a funky pattern. As long as you don’t overdo it, one crazy element in an otherwise tame bathroom will look simply mind-blowing.

Make sure to use a penetrating sealer on your tiles if you want the bold colors to last for as long as possible.

Storage, storage, storage

I know it’s really cool when your bathroom looks nice, clean, clutter-free and everything, but let’s face it, you need some space to put your stuff too, so you can’t really do without storage. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t be both effective and stylish. If your bathroom has got some awkward corners, you could always add some basic extra shelves there.

Put your clean towels on display, and if you wish, buy new, colorful ones that will come into contrast with the rest of the room. If you’re more into aromatherapy, you can always place some scented candles here.

And since we’re already discussing shelving, let me give you another piece of advice. In fact, I’ll give you key words: open shelving. If I were you, I would get rid of any bulky furniture I already had and got myself one of those tall cubbies that you can practically load up with stuff. Believe me, you won’t even need a medicine cabinet or a vanity, and best thing is, you can actually show off your pretty bottles and products this way, so long as you keep your make-up, perfume and nail polish away from excessive humidity.

That teeny, tiny table that every bathroom needs

For those times when you feel like taking a bubble bath and lighting some rose-scented candles. For those times when you have to find a place for that fancy shampoo and shower gel you’ve just bought yourself. For those times when you need a place to put a couple towels, or even your cell phone, in the proximity of the bathtub.

Yes, you definitely need a table – a little one would work best, obviously – but don’t think of this for too long. A stool, even an old one, will work brilliantly. In fact, it would look really awesome next to that ladder I’ve been telling you about. Especially if there’s a flower vase in the picture too.

So what are you waiting for? Make your bathroom your sanctuary. It’s a lot easier than you’d think.
